Mattress Warranty Claim Stain Clause Issue.

POed writes:

Hi Pete,
In my opinion, Anyone who purchases a mattress should spend time reviewing the warranty on a mattress.
We got burned by SpringAir on a defective mattress with 3 inch depressions and unraveling pillowtop after only 6 months of use.
Because of a 4" water stain at the edge of the mattress, the claimed was denied.
When I asked them to explain how 2 oz of water made its way into the middle, top and bottom of the mattress where the body impressions were and to the sides where the mattress was collapsing and how it caused the pillowtop stitching to unravel.
was actually told "they don't have to".

This is a very deceptive and ridiculous practice on the part of the mattress manufacturers.
I have read of class action suits over this although not sure how far that will get.
Face it, the manufacturers don't want to replace your mattress and they will do whatever to get out of it.
Lesson learned is do your homework, make the sales person earn their commission by explaining the ins and outs of dealing with a defect.
(That's what they are there for).
And, buy a waterproof mattress protector BEFORE the bed is delivered.

Oh, and I learned today, that if the retailer replaces the mattress they will replace ONLY the mattress unless the box spring is defective too.
If you end up replacing it with a different brand mattress on the old box springs, this will also automatically void the warranty of the new mattress.
Don't tell me this is an honest practice!

Hi there, Plenty POed, and thank you for that rant.
The "stain" clause is written in stone, by every mattress manufacturer....and has been forever...nothing new.
I encourage all of you to read the warranty card that comes with the mattress you buy.
DO NOT, however, rely on the salesperson for this information.
A waterproof mattress protector is an essential purchase...a true "must have", to protect the warranty of your mattress.
When you learn all this the hard way, it's plenty easy to get "Plenty POed".

Many waterproof mattress protectors sleep hot, and/or, make some sort of crinckly sound.
The Danican Waterproof Mattress Protectors are all natural, sleeps cool, noiseless and a generous fit.
What's more, it doesn't shrink with multiple washing in hot water. It's the one we use at home.
