Latex mattress topper for scoliosis

Hi Pete
I have scoliosis, mild DDD, sciatica hips & mid back pain. Physical therapy helps but never long term. I am a back sleeper and had looked at the Sealy Optimum line in store - felt it was comfortable, but have read your blog regarding the negatives of memory foam for bad backs and am now even more concerned about what is best for me. I tried a few "firm" mattresses and they felt like a board. Maybe I am just used to the cushiony feel, but am I doing more damage to my back? The mattress we have is old and too firm. It looks ok, but isn't at all comfortable anymore. Do you think that one of your soft latex toppers will help me?
I am 5 feet and under 100 lbs and feel "everything." Open to suggestions. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Hi Barbara,
There's no question that the latex topper will help you. Even if you were to buy a new mattress, the materials in most of them won't cushion you as it needs to...not for very long, at any rate. Logic dictates that since you will need a latex topper with a new mattress, that you first try it on your existing mattress, seeing as how it's still in good shape. You are, obviously getting firm support. All you should need is a soft sleeping surface that won't poop out on you that way poly and memory foam does.
My advice is to try the topper first. If you still feel that you need a new mattress, we can go from there....and, you'll use that topper on your next mattress. They are very long lasting. In many cases, like yours, a new mattress isn't necessary. Here is the link to the latex toppers. Given your size and condition, go with the 3" soft Talalay.
